I hope you had a great 2025 and are heading into the new year feeling healthy and refreshed. Like many of us, I’m also pretty happy to put last year in the rearview mirror and start fresh. A new year is always a good reminder to reset, clean things up, and focus on what’s ahead.

Instead of looking back, let’s focus on the present and get 2026 started off right. Below are a few simple things worth checking or taking care of as we kick off the new year — small steps now can help prevent bigger headaches later on.

As always, if you have questions or need a hand, just reach out. Let’s make 2026 a smooth, secure, and low-stress year… with fewer tech surprises and more things actually working the way they’re supposed to 🙂

Check your computer and iPhone backups

Yes, you’ve heard me say this before. Probably more than once. And yes, it really is that important.

Over the years, I’ve asked countless people if their computers and iPhones are backed up. The most common answers? “No,” or “I’m not sure.” That’s always a bit alarming, because we don’t usually realize how important our data is until it’s suddenly gone.

Photos, contacts, emails, documents, work files, and messages, once they’re lost, they may be gone for good. Hardware fails. Phones get lost or damaged. Updates go sideways. It happens every day.

So please take a few minutes now to check:

  • Is your computer backing up regularly via a local backup with Time Machine and/or cloud backup via Backblaze?
  • Is your iPhone backed up to iCloud or a computer?
  • Do you know where those backups are and when they last ran?

If the data on your computer or phone matters to you, making sure it’s backed up is one of the simplest and smartest things you can do. A little time spent now can save a lot of stress later.

(And if you’re not sure how to check or set it up, you know where to find me.) 😊

Cybersecurity Protection for Corporate Businesses

ThreatDown cyber security

For our corporate and enterprise clients, we offer ThreatDown (powered by Malwarebytes) — a Managed Detection & Response (MDR) solution designed to protect your organization around the clock.

ThreatDown provides 24x7x365 expert-led threat monitoring, investigation, and remediation, ensuring that potential security threats are detected and addressed before they can disrupt your operations. This goes far beyond traditional antivirus protection.

We have already deployed ThreatDown for many of our corporate clients to safeguard their environments against viruses, malware, and—most critically—ransomware. Ransomware attacks can be devastating: once a system is compromised, computers, servers, and critical data can be locked down entirely, often forcing businesses to pay a ransom just to regain access. Our goal is to help prevent that scenario before it ever happens.

If you’d like to learn more or explore the right level of protection for your organization, contact us for a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your business needs.

Protection for Personal Computers

Malwarebytes cyber security

You’ve heard me talk (and yes, occasionally rant) about cybersecurity before, and there’s a good reason for that. It really is that important, too.

Cyber threats continue to rise every year, and now with AI-powered attacks in the mix, scams, malware, and ransomware are becoming more sophisticated and harder to spot. These threats don’t just target big companies anymore — everyday users, personal computers, and iPhones are very much in the crosshairs.

That’s why we strongly recommend proper security on all devices. For many of you, we’ve already set up Malwarebytes on your computers and iPhones to help protect against viruses, malware, and ransomware before they can cause damage or data loss.

Cybersecurity isn’t a “set it and forget it” thing — it’s an ongoing layer of protection, just like locking your doors or wearing a seatbelt. If you’re unsure whether your devices are protected, or if it’s been a while since we checked your setup, now is a great time to review it.

Malwarebytes is free to download and scan your device. They also have 24/7 proactive plans that are currently on sale (for a limited time) with 45% off (now $24.74 per device).
